Gallup Solar Committees

Gallup Solar members decided to form a number of working committees in May 2008.  The membership realized the sheer load of work required to accomplish our mission required a lot of work to be done outside regular meetings.

The committees also allow members who cannot attend regular core meetings to contribute in their areas of interest and expertise.

Vision & Mission Committee

The vision and mission committee meet regularly to discuss the mission and vision of Gallup to make sure the group’s actions are in line with these statements.  The group is also in charge of organizing retreats and putting the group’s goals into writing. This committee needs individuals who are comfortable with looking into an organization’s values and its role in the larger scheme of things.

Mission & Vision Committee meets every Tuesday, 1 to 2 PM, Catholic Indian Center, 2nd Floor.

Planning & Design Committee

The planning & design committee is currently developing specifications for a Proof of Concept RPF as part of the funds allocated to Gallup Solar by the New Mexico Legislature. The planning committee focuses most of its effort on the steps needed to bring a utility scale solar plant to McKinley County.  This committee needs people that understand project financing, engineering, strategic partnering and law.  If you join this committee, you will be challenged to be creative and think critically.

Planning & Design Committee meets every Sat., 1:30 to 3:00 PM, Community Pantry.

Tribal Committee

The tribal committee works with tribal policy makers to include them in the solar plant development process, promote tribal solar initiatives, and explore mutually-beneficial opportunities.  The committee’s goal is to educate and empower tribal members about the benefits of solar energy; and to sponsor cooperative sister Solar Groups for the establishment of small and medium-sized power plants throughout the Navajo Nation.

Tribal Committee currently meets every other Wednesday, 6 to 8 PM, Work in Beauty House. View Tribal Committee's webpage.

Website Committee

The website committee works regularly on the organization and content of GallupSolar.org.  The committee needs people that know the basic and more advanced web coding languages, such as HTML and javascript, as well as those that have a learned or intuitive sense of design principles.  If you join this committee you will be challenged to apply your knowledge creatively while still making the site accessible to the average person.

Website Committee meets on an 'as-needed' basis, Work in Beauty House.

Land Committee

The land committee has identified two possible sites for a megawatt solar power plant in our area.  Yet we will continue to investigate all availabilities.

Mission & Vision Committee meets on an 'as-needed' basis, Work in Beauty House.

Forum Committee

The forum committee plans the four forums Gallup Solar hosts annually at each solstice and equinox. The forums are designed to engage the local community members in the push for solar power usage in and around Gallup.

Mission & Vision Committee meets every Wednesday, 8 to 9 PM, Work in Beauty House.

Membership & Records Committee

The Membership & Records Committee works with the office staff and all committees to promote the growth and development of a diverse and broad-based membership and to develop and maintain secure archives of all important documents and activities.
